What qualities come to mind when you think about practical tents to take camping?
Durability? Spaciousness? Versatility? Waterproofing? Ease of assembly?
Yep, yes, yup, uh-huh, and yes again.
Find a tent with each of these attributes and you’re onto a winner! And that’s why teepee tents (sometimes spelled ‘tipi’ or referred to as a wigwam tent) make such awesome shelters in the great outdoors.
Originally made from buffalo hides and used by the indigenous people of North America, these types of tents have been used for centuries for this exact purpose.
Sure, tipi tents have changed in many ways since then, but their basic design and robust, practical nature remains the same. These days, with so many models on the shelves, the trickiest part is choosing the best teepee tent for your needs.
That’s why I put this post together about the best teepee tents for camping!
I’ve found and reviewed 8 of the best teepee style camping tents available that (I hope) will help you find the perfect one for your upcoming camping trips.

The Best Tipi Tent for Camping – 8 Wigwam Tent Reviews
Looking for a good old-fashioned wigwam tent to take on your next camping trip? Have a look at these 8 top options below!
1. Vidilado Family Dome Wigwam Tent
PRODUCT FEATURES
Superior Materials
Vidilado uses an anti-tear 190T patented polyester and 150D Oxford fabric to manufacture these quality teepee tents.
That makes it durable, water-resistant, and highly practical.
Throw in the reinforced anti-rust steel tent poles and you’ve got a well-constructed tipi tent that’ll protect you from the elements.
Spacious and Comfortable
This large family tent measures 12 x 8 x 10 feet.
In other words, it’s spacious enough to comfortably house around 5 to 6 people on a camping trip. It also means you can stand up inside with ease!
To ensure the interior doesn’t get too hot, the design features high-density mesh doors, windows, and a vented roof.
These guarantee good airflow and allow you to look outside at your surroundings.
Versatile and Easily Setup
The Vidilado teepee has a clever, simple-setup design. You can transport it with ease thanks to the carry bag it comes in and then pitch it in as little 5 minutes.
Another noteworthy feature is the ability to separate the inner tent from the outer waterproof flysheet and set them up independently.
In effect, you buy two tents for the price of one!
That versatility would be great in a number of situations. For example, you could have one tent to sleep in and another to hang out in during the day.
If the weather closes in, simply drape the waterproof outer layer over the inner mesh one.
With tonnes of space, quality materials, a clever design, and an easy setup, this would be an awesome tipi tent.
PROS
- Large enough to sleep the whole family.
- Big canopy/awning on the outside allows you to create a shady space outside.
- It comes with a convenient storage and carrying bag to keep your tent safe.
- Can be divided into two separate tents.
- Quality materials
CONS
- Does not include the entrance pole (as pictured) to keep the shade suspended.
- Requires stakes; you may need better ones than the ones included.

2. Winterial 6-7 Person Camping Teepee Tent
PRODUCT FEATURES
Durable & Watertight
The Winterial tent is another example of a well-made product that boasts quality materials.
The 210 T polyester and waterproof tarp footprint provide good protection from the elements and shouldn’t break any time soon.
There’s also a handy little ‘rain cap’ that fits over the top and prevents water getting inside from above.
With a 1500mm waterproof rating, this tent should keep you dry and comfortable through a all-but the heaviest storms.
Perfect for Most Occasions
The Winterial Teepee Tent seems like an impressive all-rounder.
It’s big, waterproof in light rainfall, and can be setup in under 5 minutes- all of which are valuable attributes.
I also like that it has fully sealed floors (adding to the waterproofing) and the fact you can draw back the doors to keep the doorway clear.
There are 4 windows, 4 mesh vents for air flow, and 2 zippered doors.
One downside, though, is the lack of ‘awning’ that you get with the Vidilado above.
You can’t extend the tent fabric outward to create a sheltered outside space, which is by no means the end of the world, but you’d be restricted to sitting inside if the rain started to fall.
Another issue I can see is the apparent absence of an inner mesh/bug net section. That’s bad news if you go anywhere with mozzies!
Lots of Space!
If you’ve got a big, adventurous family, or love going camping with friends, then the Winterial teepee tent would be a solid choice.
It’s designed to sleep between 6 and 7 people, with a 10ft diameter and 8ft central height that should accommodate even the tallest of the group!
Now, don’t expect any bells or whistles. But, all told, you’re looking at another good-quality, no-nonsense tipi tent that’d provide first-rate shelter for the whole family.
PROS
- An affordable family teepee tent
- Solid windows come with blinds for privacy and sun protection
- Fully sealed floor
- A high waterproof rating
- Large floorspace
CONS
- The top rain cap has no mesh and may allow bugs to come through.
- Reports of occasional manufacturing flaws

3. Blackdeer 4-Person Tipi Tent
PRODUCT FEATURES
Top Quality Construction
Many reasonably-priced wigwams seem to compromise on their materials and construction.
But not the Blackdeer! This is one teepee that provides amazing quality without costing an arm and a leg.
Get your hands on it and you’d enjoy premium polyester, nylon, aluminum, and steel that goes into the construction.
The package comes with 1 tent (with No-See-Um mesh and inner pockets), 4 collapsible aluminium poles, 8 aluminium stakes, 1 stake mallet, extra guy ropes, and an soft-sided case for storage.
Durable, Premium Design
Expect shelter from both the elements and insects on your outdoor adventures! The outer material has a waterproof rating of 3000mm, which should keep you dry in a downpour.
Likewise, the ‘bathtub’ floor design seals the bottom and prevents leaks from seeping upwards during the night.
I love that there’s no-see-um netting inside too, which is a first-rate fabric that’s sure to keep out any unwanted bugs.
Good Size, Easy to Assemble
This particular tent’s on the smaller side compared to others on this list (87″ x 87″ x 71″), which makes setting it up nice and simple.
All you have to do is slide the tent poles into their sleeves and insert them into the ground at the 4 corners. No need to struggle with lifting heavy fabrics or joining different parts.
However, the footprint can still fit a full-sized blow up mattress, so it’s definitely roomy enough for most people!
I like that you can open the doors up on two sides, creating a cool, open setup; 4 vents at the top add to that airflow/ventilation. Last but not least, a handy zippered storage bag means you can carry everything around with ease.
Overall, this tipi tent is hard to fault.
PROS
- Includes tent, poles, stakes, mallet, and additional guy lines
- It comes with an organized soft case for easy storage and transportation
- Spacious enough to fit a full size air mattress
- Simple setup
- High-quality construction
CONS
- Arguably better-suited to children than adults!
- Smaller than other teepees on this list

4. Fltom Hot Teepee Tent for Camping
PRODUCT FEATURES
Durable Materials
The Fltom tent uses a PU coated, 210D 100% polyester as its primary manufacturing material. Durable, capable of withstanding up to 3000 mm of water, and resistant to UV damage, you’re sure to be well-protected from the elements!
At just 3.2lbs, this tent’s also nice and lightweight, which is good news if you’re lugging it around by hand.
Well-Designed (But Too Small?)
This camping tipi features a unique hexagon cone design with two full doors, which help to ventilate it and let the light in.
A simple ‘center-pole’ setup should enable you to pitch the tent in a few minutes too.
However, the reviews do note that you don’t get any instructions to refer to as you go about the task! That’d be less than ideal and could slow you down on the first few attempts at putting it up.
Be sure to take note of the dimensions as well.
This tent’s a fair bit smaller than others on this list. Now, at 10.5ft in diameter, it’s by no means tiny. And it should, in theory, sleep 3 people.
But you’d struggle to get everybody in if you’ve got a stove inside (more on this next) too. Likewise, the 5.2ft max height wouldn’t afford you the luxury of standing up.
Heat resistant stove jack
What really sets this teepee apart from most others on this list is its heat resistant stove jack.
The Fltom wigwam features a unique ‘cooking corner’ where you can feed a flue through the hole and install a stove! That’d be ideal on cold nights- or if you want to do the cooking inside.
The stove and flue pipe aren’t included, but this is still a cool feature that’d make the tent better-suited for winter camping.
PROS
- Good value for your money
- Simple center pole design makes setup easy and quick
- Double doors create first-rate ventilation and lighting
- Lightweight and portable
- Stove jack means you can create a ‘hot’ tent (stove sold separately)
CONS
- It doesn’t come with clear assembly instructions
- You don’t get a ground sheet or bug net.

5. Geertop Teepee Style Tent
PRODUCT FEATURES
Double layer protection
This highly-regarded teepee tent features a double layer design, providing you with double the protection!
The inner tent’s made from high-density mesh, which would keep the bugs at bay and deliver all-important ventilation; the separate outer fly’s made of a 35% cotton/65% anti-tear polyester combo that delivers solid waterproofing (PU2000MM) and UV protection.
As I mentioned above, one thing I like about this setup is that you can use these as two separate tents if you want to.
Aside from the practical value (such as having a place to use as a makeshift bathroom, or to get changed in), it also provide better value for money (you’re basically getting two tents for the price of one!).
Great for Family/Group Trips
At 14.2lbs, this Geertop tent isn’t small or lightweight.
Yet it does seem ideal for family/group camping trips!
It’s spacious (sleeping 4 to 6 people), versatile, 4-season, and you can divide it into two. The materials are all durable (think anti-rust steel poles and anti-tear fabric), and you can open up the outer door (creating a great view from the tent, as well as potential shade from the sun).
That level of quality and functionality make it a winning option in my eyes.
One Pole Setup
Like all the tents in this guide, the Geertop’s said to be nice and easy to both set up and take down.
It uses a ‘high livability’ A-frame center pole, which provides a max height of 1.8m (71”) inside. My only reservation is that you only get that single pole with the package.
So, if you did decide to separate the tent into two (as per the design), you’d be unable to pitch one of them!
Anybody who buys the Geertop teepee, then, could consider investing in a second pole to go with it.
PROS
- High-density mesh windows and doors provide optimum airflow
- The outer tent fly is multipurpose
- Can comfortably occupy a family of 4 to 6 people
- 4 season teepee tent
- Solid construction and great design
- You could use the inner and outer layer as separate tents
CONS
- Heavy design
- More expensive than others on the list

6. OneTigris Smokey Hut Hot Teepee Camping Tents
PRODUCT FEATURES
Ideal for Backpacking Adventures
Weighing a total of 2.6 pounds, this teepee tent’s incredibly lightweight, making it a solid bet for backpackers and solo campers.
The high-quality 20D silicone-coated nylon fabric should ensure durability, longevity, and impressive waterproofing (3000mm rating).
One possible pitfall’s the lack of groundsheet though.
This mightn’t be an issue if you’re on an adventure and have a quality sleeping mat and bag
But it’d be a problem if you enjoy your creature comforts! No groundsheet means less protection from the cold and wet- not to mention the creepy crawlies.
Bare that in mind and decide for yourself if its lightweight, versatile design is worth the sacrifice.
Hot Tent Design
The OneTigris tent contains a lot of useful features to make your camping experience more enjoyable- including waterproof treated seams, YKK zippers, and reinforced stitching.
However, one of the main attributes is the tent’s hot flue pipe opening that allows you to install stove/flue (not included).
That’d be a big deal on cold wintery nights- especially due to the lack of groundsheet.
Quick & Easy Setup
This tent features one of the easiest and quickest setups of all the teepee tents in this list.
Once again, though, do take note of the size! This is a smaller product that’s designed for two people, tops- especially when you’ve got a stove in there.
The 5.2’ max height could make it more cramped inside than you might like; standing up would be out of the question.
PROS
- Large, zippered entranceway
- Big enough for two people
- Can be used with a stove
- Super lightweight
- Made with durable, waterproof materials
CONS
- Doesn’t include the groundsheet
- It’s a cold weather-tent (expect to get hot in warm weather)
- The vents might sag, reducing airflow

7. Danchel 4-Season Cotton Bell Yurt Tent
PRODUCT FEATURES
Waterproof, Comfortable, & Luxurious
This watertight cotton canvas yurt tent looks amazing in every sense! First off, it’s guaranteed to keep you dry and comfortable on all of your family camping adventures.
The 285GSM cotton canvas fabric has a surface treatment to withstand heavy rains of 3000mm, the 540GSM PVC floor prevents any water coming in from below, and the durable design/construction will withstand howling winds as well.
Great Ventilation & Roll-up walls
With 4 large mesh windows and one expansive door, this bell tent ensures a well-ventilated interior that’s full of light during the daytime.
Even better, the walls can be rolled up to offer a 360-degree view of your surroundings.
Oh, and on cold wintery nights, you’re sure to appreciate the 3.9” stove hole. All told, this is a versatile yurt that’d be great all-year-round (more on this next).
Designed for 4-Season Camping
This large, durable, well-constructed Danchel tent can be used at any time of year and for any purpose you have in mind!
Whether you’re attending festivals, going hiking, or taking a family camping vacation, it shouldn’t let you down- regardless of the weather conditions outside.
It comes in difference sizes too, ranging from 3metres in diameter to 6metres.
As you can imagine, finding one with enough space for your needs shouldn’t be an issue- though it could be a bit harder to pitch (especially if you don’t have any help).
Overall, this particular teepee tent seems like an amazing option for families and larger groups of campers. My only gripe?
It isn’t cheap.
Expect to pay hundreds of dollars for the attributes on offer- far more than the other tents on this list.
PROS
- It comes with one year warranty
- Features a built-in stove jack in the wall
- Sturdy and well-built
- Mesh windows
- Lots of light and ventilation
- Huge, spacious design
- Comes in a variety of sizes
CONS
- Not designed for backpacking adventures!
- Too big and heavy to be transported without a car or truck
- It’s definitely not cheap

8. Wenzel Outdoors Shenanigan 5 Teepee Tent Camping
PRODUCT FEATURES
Hi-low ventilation system
The Wenzel Outdoors Shenanigan is another spacious and well-designed 5-person tent with seriously impressive ratings online.
One feature that stands out is a clever ‘hi-low ventilation system’ (that basically means it has vents toward the bottom and on the roof!), which guarantees adequate airflow through the tent.
That should stop it from becoming too stuffy or humid inside, maintaining comfort-levels in the process.
Perfect for Summer Camping
There’s arguably no other affordable tent on this list that’s better suited to warm-weather camping.
From the 3 roll back window flaps to the hi-low ventilation system, this tent’s laden with unique features that make it perfect for summer adventures. Likewise, the mesh windows allow you a great view of the outdoors while keeping pesky insects out.
Its welded polyethylene flooring and polyester canopy material should ensure you stay dry in wet weather too.
Easy 1 Pole Setup
At almost 11lbs, the Wenzel isn’t the lightest teepee on this list.
Featuring the same classic center pole design, though, it should still be incredibly easy to pop it up at the campsite. One person can expect to do it in a matter of minutes.
FYI, that 5-person claim could be pushing it! One review suggests you’re more likely to get 2 people and possibly a small child. Bare that in mind to avoid disappointment.
In all other ways, though, the Wenzel’s hard to fault as a basic tipi tent to take on your camping trips (especially the summer ones).
PROS
- Great value for money
- Waterproof
- Well-designed
- Lots of ventilation and light
- Setup’s easy (even when doing it alone)
- Features some stylish designs
- Spacious on the inside
CONS
- Less suited to year-round use
- Not super lightweight

How to Choose the Best Teepee Style Camping Tents
Unsure how to pick the best teepee camping tent for your needs? This section should help! Here are 5 key considerations to keep in mind to ensure the tent you purchase is fit for purpose.
1. Ease of assembly
There’s nothing worse than buying a tent that’s a mission to put up- especially in inclement weather! When it’s cold, rainy, and dark outside, you want to have your tent up ASAP so you can get inside and warm up.
That’s why it makes sense to choose a camping teepee tent that you can put up in a hurry! Thankfully, most modern teepee tents shouldn’t require more than a couple of people to assemble. If the tent you have in mind is exceptionally large, though, you’ll want to double-check that you’ll be able to put it up without too much trouble.
Choosing one with lightweight parts should make a difference here. However, to ensure that you don’t run into problems at the campsite, it’s always worth doing a practice run in your backyard before taking it out for real.
2. Size and Weight
The size and weight of your teepee tent are two more crucial factors. As you’d imagine, what constitutes an ‘appropriate’ size to weight ratio depends on your specific situation.
Think about the number (and size!) of people who’ll need to sleep inside and ensure there’s enough space for the task. For example, solo campers or camping couples will need a much smaller and lighter tipi tent than camping families!
Remember, the larger the tent, the heavier they’ll be to lug around. That weight might not be as important if you’re carrying the tent in the back of a truck. But it’s crucial for backpackers!
3. Materials
Most teepee tents for camping seem to be made of either cotton canvas or polyester fabric.
Now, when you consider durability and general practicality, both materials do a pretty good job. They both have some degree of waterproofing and are equally good at protecting you from the elements.
And though the cotton canvas material is closer to the traditional wigwam tent, the polyester fabric has one major advantage:
Weight.
Cotton canvas is quite a bit heavier than polyester fabric! If you plan to carry the tipi tent to the campsite without the help of a car, then the latter option’s probably best.
4. Waterproofing
As I mentioned before, most tipi tents for camping offer some level of waterproofing ability. However, it’s still worth investigating the exact waterproof rating on offer before buying one. This is especially important if you plan to make year-round use of your teepee and don’t want to be drenched in a storm!
If you do decide to buy a teepee tent with questionable waterproof capabilities, then try investing in something that can bolster its water-resistance. From waterproof sprays to rain covers/tarps, you’ll be thankful for it in rainy situations.
5. Price
Last but not least, always consider your budget before shopping for a teepee camping tent. Having a ballpark figure of how much you’re ready to spend will make it easier to focus on the affordable options.
Likewise, while a higher price tag generally means a better-quality product, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best option for you. Many expensive teepees cost so much because they have special features you may not even need!
Instead of going for the priciest teepee tent that falls in budget, then, try basing the purchase on your specific needs and its overall value for money.
Time to Choose the Best Teepee Camping Tent
Teepee camping tents can have been used as outdoor shelters for centuries. And for good reason! They’re highly practical, with a clever, spacious design that both protects you from the elements and makes it easy to set up, pack down, and transport in a hurry.
However, with so many teepee tents available these days, it can be tricky to find the best tipi tents for your needs. That’s why I put this post together about the best teepee tents on the market! I hope you’ve found value in the reviews and that they helped you pick the perfect wigwam tent for your next camping trip.
