Seriously, the Coleman name came up everywhere I looked; Coleman tents seemed both ubiquitous and all-popular.
In fact, so many of the camping tents Coleman make scored crazy numbers of 5* ratings online that I started wondering how someone could ever choose one Coleman tent over another!
And that question’s what compelled me to write this post.

If you want a quick, easy, family-friendly, functional, and affordable tent to take camping, then look no further than the Skydome.
Among its many attributes, I like that it:
- Has pre-attached poles that let you set the tent up in under 5 minutes,
- Delivers 20% more headroom thanks to its near-vertical walls,
- Comes with a wide door design to help you pass large camping items (e.g. blow-up mattresses) in and out with greater ease, and
- Offers a 1-year warranty.
At under $60 (for the 2-person) model, the Skydome offers incredible bang for its buck- a fact that’s reflected in its hundreds of 5* ratings.
Like most Coleman tents, though, that affordability does come at a cost.
For example, there are a few complaints of poor craftsmanship (such as dodgy seams and zippers that catch).
Don’t be put off though. For a cheap and spacious tent that’ll hold up well in bad weather, this one would be a great choice.
Heads up, you can buy it as a 4, 6 or 8 person tent too! That’s good news if you like this tent’s style and want to sleep more people inside.

Anybody hunting for a cheap 2-person dome tent for their kids should love the Coleman Kids Wonder Lake.
For one thing, it’s under $40 and comes with a 1-year warranty!
That’s a crazy price tag- especially on a tent that boasts many positive qualities.
You have inverted seams, welded floors, and a rainfly (this is a bit small in my opinion, but better than nothing) to create stellar waterproofing.
Then there’s the cool glow in the dark logo to entertain the kids at night, and a wealth of storage pockets inside for stashing trinkets, snacks and games.
Overall, you’re looking at a simple and cost-effective tent that any outdoorsy kids will love.
With a footprint that measures just 7’ x 4’ and a vertical height of 3’ inside the tent, though, this is definitely designed for kids! Try fitting two adults in there and you’re in for trouble.
I’m afraid I couldn’t find the material in the online listing. However, most cheap Coleman tents are made from Polyester.
If I were to guess, then I’d say this Wonder Lake tent’s the same.

First and foremost, it comes with a clever black out design, which keeps out almost 100% of natural light. That’s good news if you like to sleep in in the mornings!
Daylight isn’t the only thing that’s kept out either.
According the Coleman, you’ll stay 5°C cooler inside during daylight hours as well.
Then there’s the lightweight fibreglass poles, 100% waterproofing and UV protection, and spacious interior, which combine to offer even further comfort and functionality.
However, at over $160, it’s definitely more expensive than other Coleman brand tents you find. If you’re after a true budget camping tent, then I’d look elsewhere.

It’s got a staggering 24,300+ reviews on Amazon at the time of writing. Even more impressive than that, almost 80% of those customers gave this tent a 5* rating.
Those stats speak for themselves!
The Sundome may not break any records in terms of aesthetics, fancy features, or technical capabilities. But that’s not what it’s been designed to do…
Instead, it’s the quintessential Coleman tent: family-friendly, functional, and affordable.
The Sundome has a spacious interior, high-quality waterproofing, a rainfly awning, and large windows for ventilation. You can set it up with ease (in part thanks to the snag-free, continuous pole sleeves) and benefit from a 1-year limited warranty.
All for less than $80 (for the 3-person model).

This Dome Dark Room tent was by far the best 4 person Coleman tent I came across in my search.
Rated 4.6/5 across 2,200+ reviews, it’s clearly doing something right!
And I think it has something to do with its clever design, practical layout, and that dark room technology again.
Thanks to the latter, you’ll block out 90% of daylight and stay far cooler inside vs a classic Coleman tent. The large front porch with a waterproof floor and zippered awning is an awesome addition too.
Why? Because it provides tonnes of space to store your bags and dirty boots.
As always with Coleman products, you have welded corners and inverted seams (with a rainfly included) for quality waterproofing, alongside a rugged frame for protection against a strong wind.
There’s even an e-port, which means you can bring electricity into the tent with ease as well.
Last but not least, you can (apparently) set this tent up in 15 minutes too, which sounds quite impressive for a 4-person tent!
And all of that for under $130.

I reviewed the Coleman Skydome 2-person tent in the ‘best 2 person Coleman tents’ section above.
However, this 6-person dark room version of the same model deserves its own mention too.
First off, it boasts the same 5-minute pitch (thanks to the pre-attached poles), the added 20% headroom (thanks to its vertical walls), and the easy loading capabilities (thanks to its wider door).
Throw in the:
- Dark room tech (that blocks 90% of sunlight and keeps you cooler),
- Spacious interior (expect 6ft height at its centre!),
- Epic waterproofing, and
- The 1-year limited warranty and you’ve got yourself a winning tent.
All that said, one or two reviewers mentioned that the zippers got stuck and the tent material ripped during use. That’s less than ideal when you’re paying $160.
Nevertheless, the vast majority of past customers (74%) rated it 5* and left rave reviews. All told, I think this is one of the best Coleman tents 6-person that you’ll come across!

The Evanston Dome is another wildly popular 6-person Coleman tent online. It’s been reviewed over 4,000 times and scores 4.6/5 on average.
Those kinds of numbers are always a good sign! You could buy this tent without reading any further and still be confident of its fitness for purpose.
Nevertheless, its attributes deserve a mention.
There’s no dark room technology here, but you do get all the usual Coleman quality: great waterproofing, easy setup, a good ventilation system, a rainfly as standard, a robust design, and a 1-year limited warranty.
Its main selling points, however, are definitely the screened porch that sits on the front and the spacious interior.
Indeed, the Evanston boasts a 10’ x 5’ “full-floor screen room” to keep the bugs out! That means you can sit there in the evenings without being eaten alive by insects.
Inside, the 10’ x 9’ floor provides ample space for between 5 and 6 people; its 5’ 8” height means you’ve got plenty of space above you too.

8. Coleman Montana

The Montana 8-person tent is another of Coleman’s larger models that comes with sky-high ratings.
There are over 5,750 reviews, of which almost three-quarters are rated 5*!
Honestly, if you’re looking for an 8-person tent, the Montana looks hard to fault. It’s got all of the usual Coleman attributes, heaps of space inside (16’ x 7’ floor space; 6’2” in height), and a variety of useful features to make your camping trip that bit easier.
For instance, one feature I like in particular is the hinged door. Unlike most tent doors, this one swings open like the front door of your house! The result?
You can get in and out with far greater ease.
The extended awning that covers this swinging entranceway (offering additional weather protection) is another nice touch.
Last but not least, this Coleman tent only costs $135.
That’s cheaper than many of the smaller models on this list! More tent for less money is always good in my book.

The Coleman Octagon would be ideal for anybody who wants an 8-person tent with a twist!
Its novel design makes it seem more like a marquee/canopy tent than anything else, with 8 sides that create a 13’ x 13’ floor space and a 6’10” interior height.
All that space means you can fit two queen-size camping beds or 8 sleeping bags in there.
Even better, you could stand up inside with ease and still have space above your head! Few other camping tents out there can say the same.
Given its size, it’s unlikely that the Octagon would be as easy to put up though.
Nevertheless, with colour-coded steel tent poles, it shouldn’t cause you too much trouble! According to Coleman, it’ll still only take 15 minutes.
As far as downsides go, the main one I can see with this tent is its weight. At around 40lbs, it’s a bit of a beast!
It would be fine for camping trips where you plan to travel to the campsite by car. But for anything else, I reckon it’d be too heavy to carry around.
Then there’s the price to think about.
This tent is over $240, which makes it one of the most expensive on this list. That might throw a spanner into the works for budget campers.
Assuming neither factor is too much of a problem, though, the Octagon would be a cool, functional, and clever 8-person tent alternative to others on this list.

10. Coleman Weathermaster

High-quality 10 man tents that don’t break the bank are generally hard to come by! That’s one reason the Coleman Weathermaster deserves all the accolades it gets online.
At under $220 and around 2,100 5* rated reviews, it’s by far one of the best Coleman 10 person tents you’ll find on the market.
Similar in design to the Coleman Montana, this tent boasts a 17’ x 9’ rectangular floorplan with a central hinged door for access. That means you’d enjoy an easy-access entranceway that swings like an ordinary front door and opens onto a healthy amount of room inside.
The 6’8” interior height should deliver more than enough space above your head.
There’s good ventilation (provided by fly-screened window openings at either end) and a rainfly to assist with waterproofing. Coleman predicts that it’ll take 20 minutes to put up, which isn’t bad for a big tent!
A quick note on that rainfly:
I read one review that it’s enormous, which means you can struggle to put it on by yourself- especially when it’s windy outside. That’s worth keeping in mind if you plan on taking this on solo camping trips.
In all other ways (and by almost all other accounts), though, this Coleman 10 man tent is the bee’s knees.

The Coleman instant setup cabin tent boasts a cool 9,600+ reviews on Amazon.
And 74% of them are 5* rated. Once again, that bodes very well for anybody thinking of buying it for themselves!
I can definitely see the appeal. This cabin tent is well-designed, with a spacious 8’ x 7’ floorplan and almost 5ft interior height.
All that height would be great for people who get claustrophobic too. Instead of domed walls creating an enclosed atmosphere, the near-vertical cabin design leaves everything roomier and less confined inside.
It also comes with double-thick 150D polyester fabric too, which makes it super durable. That’s important if you plan on putting this tent through its paces on camping trips to come!
However, the main selling point is surely that you can set it up in under a minute.
Talk about instantaneous! It doesn’t get much better than that.
At just under $110, this 4-person cabin tent isn’t the cheapest. Yet it’s far from expensive either. For all of its aforementioned attributes, I reckon it’s worth the price tag.
Heads up, this is also available as a 10-person darkroom tent and a classic 6-person tent. If you’re looking for more space with the same convenient assembly, then those could be good options.

It’s nothing fancy, but it costs under $50 and boasts all the usual Coleman qualities. Expect a lightweight tent with taped floor seams, multi-position rainfly, and plenty of ventilation.
The best part? It’s all setup in 10 seconds flat.
With a footprint measuring 7’6” x 4’5” (with almost 3’ of height), it’ll be cozy if you’re sleeping two people inside, but totally feasible (…if you’re small).
All told, this is a classic pop up tent that delivers good value for money. Just don’t expect it to perform as well as more expensive, technical tents!
